 Abstract:  Correspondence, research materials, published and unpublished manuscripts and articles, slides, photographs, and one audio tape, primarily from 1943 to 1957, of anthropologist George C. Barker. The collection documents Barker's anthropological research into folk drama and ritual, the social functions of language, the Pachuco language of Hispanic youths, and Yaqui Indian culture and customs. A 1964 gift to the Southwest Folklore Archives from George C. Barker, Sr. Deaccessioned from the collection in 1993 were approximately 0.2 feet of duplicates and items of a personal nature. In 1996 two 11 x 14 black-and-white photographs by Alfred A. Cohn were transferred to the L. Marguerite Collier Collection, Southwest Folklore Center Manuscripts Collection MS 611. This collection was previously titled SWF 004.

 Abstract:  Teatro Libertad was a Chicano street theater group that was founded in 1975 in Tucson, Arizona. Over the course of 10 years, it produced a number of plays and skits, performing them in a variety of places, from cotton fields to local neighborhood centers to international theater festivals. The group worked collectively to write their own material. Their focus was on issues affecting the Mexican American community and the working class. The material included in this collection is comprised primarily of original scripts, photographs, publicity, news articles and organizational documents.

 Abstract:  Includes song and music books, sheet music, and books, programs, articles, and brochures on folk dances and music, primarily of Mexico; a folk drama; correspondence; outlines and notes for folk dance and posadas productions; choreography for specific dances; and photographs. These materials, dating chiefly from 1935 through 1959, reflect Collier's interest in Mexican folklore, especially folk dance and the tradition of las posadas, and document her work in reviving las posadasand establishing Mexican cultural awareness at Carrillo School. This collection was a 1977 gift to the Southwest Folklore Archives from Mrs. Betty Sagerstrom. This collection was previously titled SWF 005.

 Abstract:  This collection consists of photocopies of reports, correspondence, memos, clippings and pamphlets relating to the work of the Truth Squad Committee. Included is the data collected and reports compiled from that data, supporting materials used and dissenting opinions of conclusions in the report, all dealing with farm labor in California and Arizona. Some of the supporting materials deal with Arizona Legislature HB 2134, a bill allowing for the creation of an employment relations board adjudicating agricultural labor disputes.
