Virginia L. Grattan is a teacher and author. Her works include American Women Songwriters: A Biographical Dictionary and Mary Colter: Builder Upon the Red Earth.
Composed of Virginia L. Grattan's correspondance and interviews with various associates of Mary Colter as well as some of Colter's personal correspondence.
Mary Colter was one of the few women architects in the early to mid 1900's. She is known for her blend of Spanish Colonial and Native American style architecture. Her most notable buildings can be found in the Grand Canyon National park, they include the Hopi House (1905), the Lookout Studio (1914), and the Desert Watchtower (1932).
