John H. Chilcott was a Professor Emeritus of Anthropology at the University of Arizona. He received a Masters of Education from the University of Colorado and a PhD from the University of Oregon. In 1962-1963 he worked under the auspices of the Museum of Northern Arizona on a study of Navajo children in the public school system.
This collection contains two manuscripts by John Chilcott: “The Emotional Response of Navajo Children to Public School Situations,” and “The Acculturation and Assimilation of Public School Culture by Navaho Dormitory Students – Flagstaff, Arizona, 1963.” Also included are comments on “The Emotional Response of Navajo Children to Public School Situations,” by Bert Kaplan and Edward Danson.
