Biographical NoteFlora Bailey (1909-1974) began her career in 1938 as a physical education teacher. During the school year she worked with her elementary students, but her summers she devoted to research and travel. Between 1938 and 1942 she spent time on the Navajo reservation conducting field research on the problems of cultural anthropology, particularly on subjects of medical and religious practices. She was associated with the University of New Mexico as an instructor in ethnology, and with the Museum of Northern Arizona as a research associate. In addition to anthropological articles, Bailey also published books for children. Scope and ContentThis collection contains a number of Bailey’s manuscripts including her PhD thesis, several articles and two children’s books. Additionally there are a large number of Bailey’s notes, some correspondence, and biographical information.
