Historical Note

The Memorial Union, which was named to honor ASU students, alumni, and staff who served in the military, opened in 1956. It has been renovated several times and a number of additions have been constructed. The facility now totals about 254,000 square feet and serves as a central meeting point for students, staff, and outside organizations.


Scope and Content Note

This collection houses office files, studies, reports, Memorial Union Gallery records, programming records, administrative files, photographs, and other materials documenting the Memorial Union, including the addition of the Montgomery Lounge and other facilities in 1970 and the construction of offices for the Associated Students of ASU, the Ventana Room, and other rooms on the second floor in 1990. Rosalyn Munk served as the Memorial Union's Program Coordinator during the time period documented in these records.
