Abstract:
Mostly construction site photographs of
the University of Arizona College of Medicine and College of Nursing. These aerial
photographs, taken between 1966 and 1969, include shots taken before construction, during
construction and after construction. Most of the photographs were taken by the Cooper Aerial
Survey Company of Tucson. Others were taken by the Tucson architectural and engineering firm
Blanton and Cole. The photos are black and white

Biographical Note
Construction of the University of Arizona College of Medicine Basic Sciences Building began
in April 1966. The first class of medical students started classes on September 11, 1967 and
the Basic Sciences Building dedication took place on November 17, 1967. The second phase of
construction – the Clinical Sciences Building and Teaching Hospital – started in July 1968.
The University of Arizona College on Nursing, which had welcomed its first class in
September 1957, held the dedication of its new building on October 18, 1968. The Polo
Village was built of Quonset huts in 1947 and served as married student housing. Before
World War II there had been a university ROTC cavalry and college polo had been played on
the grounds.

Mostly construction site photographs of the University of Arizona College of Medicine and
College of Nursing. These aerial photographs, taken between 1966 and 1969, include shots
taken before construction, during construction and after construction. Most of the
photographs were taken by the Cooper Aerial Survey Company of Tucson. Others were taken by
the Tucson architectural and engineering firm Blanton and Cole. The photos are black and
white. Views are from different perspectives and different distances. They include areas
surrounding the actual construction site and some shots show mountains or desert on the
horizon. Materials are arranged in the orignal order.

This collection is organized into 1 series, arranged numerically by aerial negative.
Additional photographs have been organized in their original order.
