Biographical Note

John McGregor was an archaeologist who worked as a curator of archaeology at the Museum of Northern Arizona in Flagstaff, Arizona. In his later years, John McGregor was a professor of anthropology at the University of Illinois in Urbana. McGregor's research included Cahokia in Illinois and tree ring dating in both Illinois and the Southwestern United States, but was not limited to either. McGregor was best known for his book on Southwestern Archaeology, which was one of the first truly comprehensive books discussing the specific field of Southwestern archaeology.


Scope and Content Note

Collection consists of personal and professional correspondence, with scientists such as A.E. Douglas, University of Arizona, and Dr. James Griffin, University of Michigan. Also includes paper and class lectures of McGregor, as well as class notes, papers by students as well as McGregor, and class outlines. Includes reprints of articles about archaeology and other sciences, not only in Arizona and the United States, but also in many foreign countries.
