Historical Note

The Climate Story Project oral histories (NAU.MI.2023.52) were created in the fall of 2023 by students in The Climate Project course (HUM 382/HUM 599). Taught by Gioia Woods and Peter Friederici of Northern Arizona University, the course was designed to help students gain a sophisticated understanding of climate change through the investigation of narrative and storytelling. As part of their coursework, students were required to interview someone whose work intersected with climate science. They were encouraged to seek out interviewees from a wide variety of disciplines and approach their projects with creativity. In collaboration with Woods and Friederici, Special Collections and Archives staff Sam Meier and Melissa Lawton facilitated the acquisition of materials, instructing students on how to contribute their stories to the collection and providing additional instruction via guest lecture.

Scope and Contents

The Climate Story Project oral histories (NAU.MI.2023.52) is a collection of 27 interviews conducted by students in The Climate Story Project course (HUM 382/HUM 599, Fall 2023) taught by Dr. Gioia Woods and Peter Friederici. The collection is composed of 24 born-digital video recordings (MP4, MOV), 1 born-digital audio recording (MP3), and 2 stand-alone interview transcripts (PDF, DOCX).
