Biographical NoteJohn Frederick Huckel was the vice president of the Fred Harvey Company and also the founder of its “Indian Department.” During his time in the southwest Huckel collected Navajo sandpaintings. His collection now resides at the Taylor Museum in Colorado. Scope and ContentCollection contains extensive descriptions of the sandpaintings in the collection in the Taylor Museum, including notes describing the male and female Shootingways, the Windway, Beadway, Mountainway, Big Starway, Beautyway, and Plumeway. Additionally there is a description of the Shootingway written by Miguelito, who was the creator of a number of the collection’s sandpaintings. Biographical information on J.F. This collection contains culturally sensitive material (Navajo sandpaintings and ceremonial material). Therefore, the entire MS-77 collection has been restricted.
