Historical Note

Ruth Wootten, social services advocate, was educated in Chicago, where she first became involved in social welfare matters. In 1963 she became a leader of the Arizona branch of the Welfare Rights Organization, which later changed its name to Human Rights of Arizona, Inc. Human Rights of Arizona is a non profit corporation which is principally involved with advocacy for private persons needing social services, and in advising governmental bodies which administer such services.


Scope and Content Note

This collection houses manuscripts, reports, videotapes, photographs, correspondence, and other materials documenting senior citizens, Social Security, homeless persons and housing issues, disabled persons, human rights, medical care, mental health concerns, and welfare programs. This collection has not been processed in full and can be viewed only by appointment. Contact Archives and Special Collections for more information.
