Biographical Note

Paul Wright was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1892. As an electrical engineer for Bell Telephone Company, he and his wife, Helen, lived in Newark, New Jersey before retiring to Prescott, Arizona. Mr. Wright was an active river runner on the Colorado, Snake and Salmon rivers throughout the 1950's and 1960's, and a member of the Colorado River "River Rats". He died August 4, 1970 in Prescott, Arizona.

Scope and Content Note

The Paul Wright collection (1946-1993) contains slides, photographs and a bound photo journal which chronicle Paul Wright's numerous river trips. Copies of Paul and Helen Wright's obituaries are also included. The photo journal, created by Paul Wright, specifically documents his Colorado River trip in July of 1952, with Tad and Mary Jane Nichols, Lucy Arnold and Sue Seely, Ross Johnson and Naomi Heale. Additional items in the collection include a 16mm reel film labeled "Tahiti", two 8mm films labeled "Yampa, June 1966," and three audio recording tapes. One tape is labeled "Mr. T. Davies" with his address in London, United Kingdom. Manuscript materials are arranged alphabetically and images are organized chronologically.

Materials are organized in two major categories of manuscript and photographs. The manuscript collection is arranged alphabetically, while the photographs are organized chronologically by years, prior 1950-1966.

NAU.PH.2005.10 - Photographs, 1946-1969.
	Photo images include slides, transparencies, negatives and photographs, both black and white, and color. The majority were Mexican Hat Colorado and San Juan river trips, until 1961 when Paul Wright ran the Salmon on the Idaho-Oregon border. Many items in the collection were duplicates and unlabeled. A significant number did include dates, so the images were organized chronologically.
