Biographical Note
Born in December of 1951, James (Jim) Woodward completed his Bachelor of Architecture
from Arizona State University in 1974. After that, Mr. Woodward worked as an
architect throughout the state of Arizona. In 1978, Mr. Woodward began to
concentrate on a variety of historic preservation projects, developing an expertise
in the architectural development of the Southwestern United States. As an
architectural historian, Jim Woodward organized and conducted historic building
surveys, wrote nominations for the National Register of Historic Places, and
prepared historic structure reports. These projects ranged in scope and size from
historic home preservation to city planning guides. In his professional career, Mr.
Woodward worked for Janus Associates Inc. for decades before opening his own
architectural firm in Flagstaff, Arizona. Throughout his long and notable career,
James Woodward would continue to make historic preservation a focus, working on such
restoration projects as the Phoenix Indian School, Desert View Watchtower, and the
Santa Cruz County Courthouse. His later work focused on historic rehabilitation
projects in Flagstaff, which he continued until his death in August of 2006.
