The author of the journal, William Wares, describes excavating a site at Awatobi, hunting mountain lions in Utah, and the beauty of numerous geographic landmarks such as the Grand Canyon and Goosenecks of the San Juan country. The journal also mentions Yellowstone National Park and the Teton mountains. An Anglo, Wares made cultural observations about the Navajo and Hopi as well as the inhabitants of Mormon towns. Some of the pages in this journal contain images of culturally sensitive material. and as Arizona State Senator from 1964 to 1982. His many accomplishments during his time in office include:
establishing community colleges in Mohave and Yavapai counties, aiding in the creation of five state parks,
securing funding for transportation and rural roads, and initiating legislation that helped restore the Governor’s
Mansion at the Sharlot Hall Museum. He served as the Vice Chairman, and then the Chairman, of the Senate Appropriations
Committee, Chairman of the Joint Budget Committee, and Chairman of the Natural Resources Committee. This collection
includes newspaper articles, genealogical information, Senator Tenney’s scrapbooks of news clippings from 1965, the

but also a few travel stereographs, cabinet cards, cartes-de-visite, and daguerreotypes,
mostly relating to the Overson family of St. Johns, Arizona, along with some of townspeople,
buildings, and special occasions. There are a few portraits of people taken by Charles Jarvis,
circa 1890 to 1910. More were taken by his daughter, Margaret Jarvis Overson, circa 1920 to 1960.
A small amount were taken by other photographers and by her adult children, especially Eva M. Overson Tanner.
The images include mostly unidentified people, family, student class groups, school athletic teams,
and a few celebrations and street scenes. Photographs also include Mormon schools, school groups,
