Surface collections and excavations of a surface structure and associated features as part of a research project to investigate household organization and land use during the Surface Structure period (AD 1050-1150) in the San Simon Valley. Done in 24 5x5m grid units. Two surface processing areas were mapped and collected. Fourteen units were excavated at the site, locating four features. Feature 1 was an ephemeral surface structure, Feature 2 was a shallow ash deposit located east of the structure, Feature 3 was a rock cluster that was possibly a deflated hearth, and Feature 4 was a shallow midden located southeast of the structure. Data from the project indicate that this site represents a short-term occupation that may have been used for seasonal gathering activities in the bajada..
