 Abstract:  C. O. (Charles Otto) Miller was a teacher, consultant, and engineer who worked in aviation system safety. He was Director of the NTSB Bureau of Aviation Safety (1968-1974), a member of the Arizona Aviation Hall of Fame, and a founding member of the Embry-Riddle CASE Advisory Council. The Miller Papers contain biographical material; Miller's publications and presentations; teaching files; files on various organizations (including Miller's correspondence with the organizations); and his "accident prevention files"--a large set of subject files on aerospace safety and operations.

 Abstract:  SER, which stands for Service, Employment and Redevelopment, was a non-profit job training and education organization. It was also known as Jobs for Progress. It came about in 1964 thanks to the support of LULAC and the American GI Forum. They recognized the need to help the unemployed and provided training, education, and placement opportunities to not only Spanish speakers, but to all disadvantaged individuals. The materials in this collection include organization records and enrollee files, employment records, and case files documenting job training and skill measurement activities.  Abstract:  Dr. Augusto Ortiz lived and worked in Arizona most of his professional life from 1953 until his death in 2006. Throughout his career as a family practitioner and educator he worked to bring health care to the poor and underserved. In his earlier years he worked in private practice in the Phoenix area primarily serving a needy Hispanic population. In 1972 Dr. Ortiz moved to Tucson and established a mobile health program based out of the University of Arizona’s Rural Health Office which provided health care to many rural and underserved areas in southeastern Arizona. Areas of particular interest to him included community oriented primary care, migrant laborer health care, health education and folk medicine including herbal folk remedies and curanderismo. This collection contains Ortiz correspondence from over a 35-year period (1969-2004) as well as documents corresponding to each of the topics mentioned above including extensive documentation relating to the Mobile Health Program. The collection also includes Dr. Ortiz’s U.S. Surgeon General Medallion.
