and went to retrial in 1971. The purpose of the trial was to honor the will of James
Kidd that left money to fund scientific research that provided proof of a human soul
that leaves the body at the time of death. The collection contains correspondence,
claimant materials, press clippings, photographs, audio recordings, and oversize

researcher, and pioneer in rural reconstruction and community development. This
collection contains materials pertaining to the life and work of Duane Spencer Hatch.
Hatch conducted research in Costa Rica, India, Sri Lanka (formally known as Ceylon),
Mexico, and in Parker, Arizona. The collection contains research materials such as field
notes, diaries, correspondence, and reports, along with photographic materials
concerning these rural locations. Personal materials in the collection from Hatch, and
his wife Emily Hatch, include bibliographic and biographic materials, correspondence,
publicly files, and photographs. Audio and visual materials in the collection include
movies created by Hatch in movie reel and DVD format and talks given by Hatch in record

Black Sparrow Press published a number of American and English authors including Diane Wakoski, Joyce Carol Oates, Robert Creeley, Charles Olson, John Fante, Gerard Malanga, Wanda Coleman, and acquired publication rights for Wyndham Lewis and D. H. the Pachuco language of Hispanic youths, and Yaqui Indian culture and customs. A 1964 gift to the Southwest Folklore Archives from George C. Barker, Sr. Deaccessioned
from the collection in 1993 were approximately 0.2 feet of duplicates and items of a personal nature. In 1996 two 11 x 14 black-and-white photographs by Alfred A. Cohn
were transferred to the L. Marguerite Collier Collection, Southwest Folklore Center Manuscripts Collection MS 611.
