of Physical Education, 1902-1952," and other information regarding Gittings'
personal and professional interests. Also includes materials written by
Gittings and others relating to the Department of Physical Education for Women;
as well as a history of physical education legislation in Arizona. Information
on the Ina E. Gittings building on the University of Arizona campus is also

programs, articles, and brochures on folk dances and music, primarily of Mexico; a
folk drama; correspondence; outlines and notes for folk dance and posadas
productions; choreography for specific dances; and photographs. These materials,
dating chiefly from 1935 through 1959, reflect Collier's interest in Mexican
folklore, especially folk dance and the tradition of las posadas, and document her
work in reviving las posadasand establishing Mexican cultural awareness at Carrillo
School. This collection was a 1977 gift to the Southwest Folklore Archives from Mrs.
Betty Sagerstrom. This collection is part of the Southwest Folklore Center
collection. The Southwest Folklore Center was founded in 1979 after the dissolution
of the University of Arizona Folklore Committee and collected information about folk
communities, arts, music, and other humanities-related materials. This collection
was previously SWF 005. The materials were transferred to Special Collections in

water-related politics, senators, and other historical subjects. His collection includes
his personal materials, professional files, research files, writings, audiovisual
materials, and memorabilia he collected throughout his life. August taught at several
different institutions and held various positions at colleges, universities, and other
history-focused institutions. He served as an expert witness on key pieces of water
rights legislation in the state of Arizona. He researched several prominent Arizonan
politicians including Barry Goldwater, Dennis DeConcini, and Evan Mecham. He also did
several research projects surrounding Wade Church, Jim Chilton, the New Mexico Bar
Association, and John R. Norton III, amongst others. A large portion of his research
files are dedicated to water politics of Arizona including, but not limited to ANSAC,
the CAP, the Colorado River Controversy, Native American/indigenous water rights, the
