founding of Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual Studies at the University of Arizona beginning in
1993. The collection also includes the events and programming that the Committee for
Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual Studies put on from 1993 through 2015. In 2007, the Committee
was formally re-established as the Institute for LGBT Studies, and in 2023 was
re-established as the UA LGBTQ+ Institute. This collection is part of the Arizona
Queer Archives (AQA), a community focused archive through the Institute for LGBT
Studies at the University of Arizona. It was transferred to Special Collections in

Observatory guestbook 1923-2016 ead | | | Date(s): | 1923-2016 | | | Abstract: | The Steward Observatory, established in 1916, is the
research division of the Department of Astronomy and Steward Observatory at the
University of Arizona. The observatory began to receive visitors in 1923, when the
first building and telescope were installed. In addition to the observational and
theoretical research conducted by astronomers, the scientists at the Steward
Observatory also continue to play a critical role in significant space astronomy
missions, such as the Hubble Space Telescope. This collection contains a guestbook
for the Steward Observatory with entries from 1923 to 2016. Notable entries include
the 30th United States President Calvin Coolidge and astronomers Vera Rubin, Vesto

and reports collected by the interdepartmental University of Arizona Folklore Committee,
1943-1979. Included are administrative records of the Committee, and annual reports. The
bulk of the material is from Pima, Pinal, and Santa Cruz counties. This collection is
part of the Southwest Folklore Center collection. The Southwest Folklore Center was
founded in 1979 after the dissolution of the University of Arizona Folklore Committee
and collected information about folk communities, arts, music, and other
humanities-related materials. This collection was previously SWF 002. The materials were
