 Abstract:  Courses in mechanics were conducted under the supervision of Dean G. M. Butler, College of Mines and Engineering, in contract with the United States government to provide specialized training to 200 mechanics between July and August 1918. Members of the program were known as the "Fighting Mechanics". In September 1918, the program was expanded to become the Student's Army Training Corps.

Some duplicate typescript chapters are also present. The novel is about a young woman's love for a soldier, set in England during World War I.

 Abstract:  Holograph manuscript, in pencil, of the short story, Courage. It consists of eight leaves and contains McCutcheon's edits. The story concerns a wounded World War I soldier recalling his battle experiences, while recuperating in a French military hospital. The last page is signed and dated, December 23, 1917; however, a note at the beginning of the story says it was started December 20, 1916 and completed December 22. A typescript of the original story is included.

 Abstract:  The United States Army Ambulance Service, also known as the USAAS, was created by presidential order May 18, 1917, for the duration of the "existing emergency." This original typescript relates the history of the Ambulance Service with the French Army on the Western Front, during WWI. A signed introduction by Col. Percy L. Jones, Paris, April 15, 1919, states that the report is in compliance with instructions given by the Surgeon General, Nov. 27, 1918.

The bulk of the material relates to his medical career as a surgeon for the S. P. de Mexico Railroad Company and USA Medical Corps in France during WWI, and archaeological excavations undertaken in Mexico and the American southwest. Topics of interest include the Mexican Revolution, WWI, and medical research and publications on a number of topics including yellow fever on the northwest coast of Mexico in the early-mid 1920s.
