Materials document Cummings's late career activities including the publication of his Kinishba book and a proposed handbook on Southwestern archaeology, the operation of Kinishba Museum and efforts to secure a salaried curator, the Arizona Hohokam Museum Association, collection donations, and professional correspondence with scholars and institutions. Correspondents include Senator Carl Hayden, F. W. Hodge of the Southwest Museum, Lula and John Wetherill, Jesse Nussbaum of the National Park Service, and R. E. Solosth. 	Abstract:	Consists of the professional papers of archaeologist James C. Gifford dating from the 1920s to the early 2000s. The bulk of the collection is composed of records for the journal Ceramica de Cultura Maya et al. This publication was a key platform for collating scholarship on Mayan ceramics. Also included in the papers are items such as Gifford's journal of his 1952 trip to Tarahumara settlements in Mexico, extensive ceramic typology research files, publication materials for his study of the Barton Ramie site in Belize, the records of a joint project with Watson Smith on Awatovi corrugated ceramics, and extensive correspondence files from scholars around the world involved in pottery research. These papers document the conceptual development of the type:variety-mode approach to the study of prehistoric ceramics.
