Contains professional correspondence, manuscripts and essays, research materials, and audio tapes documenting Acosta's interests in the Spanish language, folk songs and folklore and Southwestern United States and Mexican culture. This collection is part of the Southwest Folklore Center collection. The Southwest Folklore Center was founded in 1979 after the dissolution of the University of Arizona Folklore Committee and collected information about folk communities, arts, music, and other humanities-related materials. This collection was previously SWF 006. The materials were transferred to Special Collections in 2017.

 Abstract:  George Blier was a histotechnologist who was stationed at the U.S. Army 361st Station Hospital in Toyko, Japan from about 1947-1948. There he established and ran what was at the time the largest medical laboratory in the Far East. Returning to the United States he worked as a histotechnologist in various locations. He was a founding member of the National Society for Histotechnology. The collection contains laboratory procedures manuals dating from his time in Tokyo at the 361st Station Hospital (1947-1948) and also some papers papers relating to the National Society for Histotechnology (mainly 1977-1978).
