 Title:  Mining Reports on Claims in the Naica Mining District, Chihuahua, Mexico 1935-1937 ead

 Abstract:  The Naica Extension Mine, formerly called the Felicidad, actually consists of 45 mining claims situated on the Naica Mountain in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico. Reports to investors detailing activities at mines located in Chihuahua, Mexico; chiefly Naica Extension Mine. Mining engineer James V. Dignowity, along with William L. Heyl, wrote these work progress reports, 1935-1936. Small black-and-white photographs depict the area, mining operations, and workers. A map shows the mining claims of the Naica Mining District. Assay/smelting reports are from both the American Smelting and Refining Company, and the Compañia Metalúrgica Peñoles, S.A., 1936-1937.

 Abstract:  Dr. Jack L. August, Jr. (1954-2017) was an expert in Arizona water-related politics, senators, and other historical subjects. His collection includes his personal materials, professional files, research files, writings, audiovisual materials, and memorabilia he collected throughout his life. August taught at several different institutions and held various positions at colleges, universities, and other history-focused institutions. He served as an expert witness on key pieces of water rights legislation in the state of Arizona. He researched several prominent Arizonan politicians including Barry Goldwater, Dennis DeConcini, and Evan Mecham. He also did several research projects surrounding Wade Church, Jim Chilton, the New Mexico Bar Association, and John R. Norton III, amongst others. A large portion of his research files are dedicated to water politics of Arizona including, but not limited to ANSAC, the CAP, the Colorado River Controversy, Native American/indigenous water rights, the Santa Cruz River, the Salt River, the Gila River, and others.

 Abstract:  This collection contains digital file images of color photographs taken (mostly) by Dr. Margolis between 1954-1956 in and around Fort Defiance, Arizona and in other locations in northern Arizona and northern New Mexico. The original photographic prints are not held in this collection; the PowerPoint is the source record from which digital file images are collected. Individual image files (JPEG format) were extracted from the PowerPoint and converted into TIFF-formatted files which are available upon request. To facilitate previewing, black and white PDF print surrogates are also included. Several publications highlighting the work of Dr. Margolis have also been included.

 Abstract:  This plan, along with others, was adopted in 1825 by the Junta and published, in 1827, under the title: Colección de los principales trabajos en que se ha ocupado la junta nombrada para meditar y proponer al supremo gobierno los medios mas necesarios para promover el progreso de la cultura y civilización de los territorios de la Alta y de la Baja California. The Junta de Fomento de Californias was established to colonize California, and establish Monterey as a commercial capital to dominate Pacific trade. Twelve-page manuscript copy of original document in secretarial hand, dated May 30, 1825, with 12 signatures listed. This plan provided for Mexican colonization and social integration of the two Californias.

 Abstract:  Gonzáles was a Spanish Franciscan priest at the San Diego del Pitiquito Mission, Sonora, from 1832-1839. Pérez Llera served at San Ignacio de Caburica from 1799; as Father President from 1830-1837, he presided over the disintegration of the Franciscan mission system in the Pimeria Alta; in 1841, he was back at Querétaro College as a guardian. Flores was the priest at the Nuestra Señora de la Asunción de Opodepe Mission in 1841, when he was elected Father President by the only two priests left in Sonora. Photocopies of typed transcriptions of three letters and reports, 1839-1841, from Father Faustino Gonzáles, Father Antonio Flores, and Father José María Pérez Llera. Addressees are the Sonoran Governor Manuel María Gándara, and an unnamed Mexican Minister of War and the Navy.

 Abstract:  Well-known for research on radar meteorology and cloud physics, Dr. Battan was a scientist who worked for the U.S. Air Force in World War Two, the Weather Bureau at the University of Chicago, and finally as a professor and head of the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Arizona. He was an authority on weather modification in both the U.S. and the Soviet Union. This collection contains research, data, publications, manuscripts, and correspondence of Battan's from 1946-1986. Subjects include weather modification, cloud physics, radar meteorology, the Thunderstorm Project, the Arizona Cloud Seeding Project, backscattering experiments, and scientific organizations related to those fields. Papers relating to conferences, meetings, lectures, and committee notes for various weather-related scientific organizations make up a large portion of the collection.

 Abstract:  Frankenstein: Penetrating the Secrets of Nature : A Traveling Exhibition to America's Libraries was an exhibit developed by the U.S. National Library of Medicine in collaboration with the American Library Association. It was made possible by major grants from The National Endowment for the Humanities, Washington, D.C., and the National Library of Medicine, Bethesda, Md. The traveling exhibition was based upon a major exhibition produced by the National Library of Medicine in 1997-1998.  Abstract:  The Mammoth Miners Memorial Oral History Collection memorializes the experiences of underground copper miners in the Mammoth, Arizona area and particularly workers in the San Manuel Mine. Contains audio cassettes of recorded interviews with former miners of the San Manuel mine near Mammoth, Arizona. Also included are the transcripts of these tapes. Renee Ross, project manager of the Mammoth Miners Memorial Oral History Project interviews former miners on topics such as folklore, women in mining, pay, safety, administration, strikes and others.
