 Abstract:  Contains correspondence, diaries, articles, stories, clippings, memorabilia, photographs, and translations of mostly unpublished works by Spanish-language writers. Some of the authors are Concha Espina de Serna, Vicente Blasco Ibáñez, Jose Maria Carretero, Guillermo Diaz-Caneja, Gregorio Martinez Sierra, Rafael Delgado, Pedro Juan Labarthe, Jose Lopez- Portillo y Rojas, Emilia Pardo-Bazan, Jose Echegaray and Eduardo Zamacois. Personal material consists of correspondence and family photographs, from marriage to Charles Fletcher Lummis, and later to Courtenay DeKalb, with whom she operated the Roadside Mine in Arizona. Photographs and correspondence related to the mine are present. Also included are typescripts of Douglas' published and unpublished articles, stories, and translations. Original drawings are by E.A. Burbank and Carl Oscar Borg. Correspondence with friends and publishers includes writers Eugene Rhodes, Henry Knibbs, Concha Espina, Vicente Blasco Ibáñez, José María Carretero, Pedro Labarthe, Guillermo Diaz-Caneja, and the publisher Phoebe Hearst. Diaries and photographs document travels to Mexico and Europe. Stories were recorded by Douglas while she lived among the Isleta Indians. Mexican and U.S. newspapers, 1911-1915, report on the Mexican Revolution. Related material in MS 39 and MS 297.

Martin describes a culture, also referred to as Toboso, that he has named the Big Bend Basket-Makers, because of similarities with the Basket Makers of Arizona and New Mexico. He discusses linguistic groups and migrations, as well as diagnostic traits related to skull shape, textiles, baskets, cloud-blowers, and projectile points. Collection includes eighteenth-century copy of the diary kept by Vélez de Escalante on his expedition with Dominguez through the four corners area of the American Southwest, July 29, 1776 to Jan. 2, 1777.

 Abstract:  This collection is organized into two subgroups: Papers and Photographs. The Papers in the first subgroup include biographical information, correspondence, and drafts of 26 of his manuscripts, including Bloody Trails of the Old Southwest and Adventures in Navajoland. The photographs are the second subgroup in this collection, this uncludes, black-and-white photographs which cover the years 1902-1929. The bulk of them are mounted and deal with Forrest's travels in the West, especially his visits among the Indians of Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado. The mounted photographs are chronicled by numbers on the reverse side which correspond to the numbers in two indexes prepared by Forrest for easy identification.

The Claws of the Hawk: the Incredible Life of Wahker the Ute, focuses on events in the life of the leader Walkara. Ghost Dance Messiah: the Jack Wilson Story is about the Paiute prophet Wovoka, who originated a Ghost dance phenomenon of the late 1880s. The other three drafts concern Mormon life and history.
