This collection contains scrapbooks of newspaper clippings relating to Hughes' political career. Also included are various telegrams congratulating Hughes on his election to governor of Arizona.

 Abstract:  Louis C. Hughes, 1844-1915, was an Arizona pioneer, lawyer, newspaper publisher, and politician. Hughes established the Arizona Daily Star in 1877 and published it until his death. This collection contains a letter copybook of Hughes' correspondence while serving as Governor of Arizona Territory. Letters include references to appointments, recommendations, the territorial prison, and the Board of Regents. Letters are carbon copies and many are difficult to read.

 Abstract:  Samuel Clark, born in 1871, was the founder of Clarkston, Ariz. Operated mining properties in Ajo and Clarkston (later called Rowood) beginning in 1907. Laid out townsite of Clarkston in 1916. The collection includes mining papers, account books, records of leases, scrapbook of photographs and newspaper clippings, and other business and personal papers. Includes blueprints of maps, time books and expense accounts, and photographs of Clarkston and the Ajo Mining District. Also present are family photographs, subscription lists of Clarkston inhabitants, and account books for rental properties.

Photocopy of typescript relates his version of events surrounding the Peralta land grant claim. This text was reproduced in The Peralta Grant; James Addison Reavis and the barony of Arizona, University of Oklahoma Press, 1960.
