This collection is comprised of photo albums, scrapbooks, loose photographs,
and printed materials documenting the life and travels of Emile Cyrus Houle.
The bulk of the material relates to his medical career as a surgeon for the
S. P. de Mexico Railroad Company and USA Medical Corps in France during WWI,
and archaeological excavations undertaken in Mexico and the American southwest.
Topics of interest include the Mexican Revolution, WWI, and medical research
and publications on a number of topics including yellow fever on the northwest

collection contains materials pertaining to the life and work of Duane Spencer Hatch.
Hatch conducted research in Costa Rica, India, Sri Lanka (formally known as Ceylon),
Mexico, and in Parker, Arizona. The collection contains research materials such as field
notes, diaries, correspondence, and reports, along with photographic materials
concerning these rural locations. Personal materials in the collection from Hatch, and
his wife Emily Hatch, include bibliographic and biographic materials, correspondence,
publicly files, and photographs. Audio and visual materials in the collection include
movies created by Hatch in movie reel and DVD format and talks given by Hatch in record

The Collection is comprised of prints and camera negatives of completed films, such as The Japanese Sword as the Soul of the Samurai and Austrian Reflections, as well as excess and outtake footage shot on various formats. The collection also includes photographic materials which document the production of his various travelogue films in locations such as India, Japan, Austria, and Mexico as well as images and negatives of Arizona, Tucson, and the United States. Other materials represented in the collection include promotional materials for films, scrapbooks, and artifacts such as samurai swords and traditional Japanese Ceremonial Clothing.
