 Abstract:  The Arizona, Southwestern and Borderland photograph collection is an artificially created collection that consists of many folders containing photographs, from various sources, of Arizona, New Mexico, and Mexico arranged by topics including places, people, events and activities, and dating from about 1875 to the present, but mostly after 1920. Formats include postcards, stereographs, cartes-de-visite, cabinet cards, cyanotypes, view books, photograph albums, panoramas, photoprints, and others.

These materials, dating chiefly from 1935 through 1959, reflect Collier's interest in Mexican folklore, especially folk dance and the tradition of las posadas, and document her work in reviving las posadasand establishing Mexican cultural awareness at Carrillo School. This collection was a 1977 gift to the Southwest Folklore Archives from Mrs. Betty Sagerstrom. This collection is part of the Southwest Folklore Center collection.  Abstract:  Jose Romero was a Lieutenant Colonel, Sonora, Mexico; leader of 1823-1826 expeditions to establish an inland route between Sonora, Mex. and California. Collection contains a letter (photocopy) to Mariana de Urrea, Commandante General de Sonora, from Romero in San Gabriel, Calif., recounting his experiences in attempting unsuccessfully to return to Sonora in the winter of 1823-1824 through the Palm Springs area, and describing the mail route between Tucson and San Gabriel which was conducted by Jose Cocomaricopa, the bearer of this letter, via the Colorado River route.

Typescripts of unpublished travel diaries, 1965-1967, concern trips to France, Greece, and Baja California. Also present are printers copies for Great Chain of Life, Forgotten Peninsula, and Grand Canyon; and notes and miscellaneous material related to Herbal.

Site 48's authenticity was later called into question, leading to several legal battles in which Ward participated, claiming that the site was authentic and his evidence was proof of a Spanish-Indian residential fort.
