 Abstract:  Papers, 1979-1989. This collection contains Miriam Davidson's manuscripts and research files for her 1988 book,Convictions of the Heart regarding the 1980's Sanctuary Movement and Trial. Materials include several drafts of the book and Davidson's research materials, the bulk of which include: news clippings, Davidson's trial notes, Sanctuary Movement materials, and cassette tape recordings of Davidson's interviews with various members of the Movement and Trial. The majority of the material is in English, some is in Spanish.

Unpublished essays and an El Salvador License plate are also contained in this collection.

 Abstract:  The Sanctuary Movement was a religious and political campaign that began in the early 1980s to provide safety for Central American refugees fleeing civil conflicts within their home countries. This collection contains materials related to the Sanctuary Movement and, more specifically, the highly publicized Sanctuary Trial that took place in Arizona. Within the collection are attorney files, certified trial transcripts, publicity materials, and trial notebooks. Also represented in the collection are donated materials from the American Friends Service Committee and the Southside Presbyterian Church, who were important players in the Sanctuary Movement. Materials from these organizations include correspondence, newspaper clippings, publications and trial materials.

The bulk of the material covers Youth at Risk: Closing L.A.'s Juvenile Camps, America's War on Poverty, Rebels with a Cause, and Sanctuary on Trial. Other titles represented are Words of Our Ancients, Hopi Stories, Les Chevaliers du Tastevin: Past, Present, and Future, El Senador, En Medea Res, Eyes on the Prize, and an untitled film about the Rio Grande. Also included are materials showing Paige Martinez's personal life and genealogical research documenting the Palmer family, the Woodruff family, and the Rivera family.
