Bennett was a longtime resident of Flagstaff who captured the land and people of the American Southwest. She also traveled internationally documenting the Tarahumara people of Mexico’s Sierra Madre and shooting for numerous international ad campaigns. In addition to her images, she kept detailed business documentation, including travel arrangements and research for her shoots.

Participants (mostly former river runners) were asked to reflect and compare conditions on the river with those prior to the damming of Glen Canyon in 1963. This was achieved through extensive oral histories; these form the bulk of the collection.
