 Abstract:  The collection holds the working materials of Jimmy Starr, such as personal and correspondence files; his writings, including typescripts, notebooks and published columns; research files which include biographical data, individual files of movie stars consisting of newspaper and periodical clippings, miscellany and subject files, and film studio ephemera. Although the material in the collection ranges from 1921 to 1989, the bulk of the holdings span the years 1923 to 1975. In addition, there are film scripts by Starr and others; photographs of movie stars, movie sets and movie stills; and as well as various audio-visual materials.

 Abstract:  The Jay Rochlin oral history project audio cassettes measure 1 linear foot and contain oral histories conducted by Rochlin with 16 African-American and 31 Mexican-American University of Arizona alumni and alumnae recorded on 58 compact audio cassettes. The collection consists of audio interviews, correspondence, oral history transcripts, and research files. These oral histories were collected by Jay Rochlin as research data for his 1995 Higher Education Ph.D dissertation: Conversations with Ricardo's daughter: The minority experience at the University of Arizona between 1925 and 1994 from a critical race theory perspective. The dissertation was later published under the title Race and Class on Campus: Conversations with Ricardo’s Daughter by the University of Arizona Press in 1997.

 Abstract:  Dr. Jack L. August, Jr. (1954-2017) was an expert in Arizona water-related politics, senators, and other historical subjects. His collection includes his personal materials, professional files, research files, writings, audiovisual materials, and memorabilia he collected throughout his life. August taught at several different institutions and held various positions at colleges, universities, and other history-focused institutions. He served as an expert witness on key pieces of water rights legislation in the state of Arizona. He researched several prominent Arizonan politicians including Barry Goldwater, Dennis DeConcini, and Evan Mecham. He also did several research projects surrounding Wade Church, Jim Chilton, the New Mexico Bar Association, and John R. Norton III, amongst others. A large portion of his research files are dedicated to water politics of Arizona including, but not limited to ANSAC, the CAP, the Colorado River Controversy, Native American/indigenous water rights, the Santa Cruz River, the Salt River, the Gila River, and others.

 Abstract:  Well-known for research on radar meteorology and cloud physics, Dr. Battan was a scientist who worked for the U.S. Air Force in World War Two, the Weather Bureau at the University of Chicago, and finally as a professor and head of the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Arizona. He was an authority on weather modification in both the U.S. and the Soviet Union. This collection contains research, data, publications, manuscripts, and correspondence of Battan's from 1946-1986. Subjects include weather modification, cloud physics, radar meteorology, the Thunderstorm Project, the Arizona Cloud Seeding Project, backscattering experiments, and scientific organizations related to those fields.
