 Abstract:  Edward Schieffelin, 1847-1897, was a prospector and discovered the silver mines of the San Pedro Valley, which led to the establishment of Tombstone, Arizona. This collection contains typescript, accompanied by an autobiographical sketch, and letter of transmittal from Mrs. Josephine F. Garrick. A version edited by Ben Traywick, was published by Red Marie's, 1988.

 Abstract:  Lewis W. Douglas was a businessman, Democratic politician, philanthropist, and diplomat. He served in the Arizona State Legislature, United States House of Representatives, United States Budget Director, President of McGill University, head of the United States War Shipping Administration, and Ambassador to Great Britian. His father, James Stuart Douglas (1868-1949) was a mine owner and banker. His grandfather, James Douglas (1837-1918) was a mining engineer, metallurgist, industrialist, and the person for whom the town of Douglas, Arizona was named. This collection includes a typescript (photocopy) made from author's original.

 Abstract:  Sister Monica was a member of party of Sisters of Saint Joseph of Carondelet and traveled to Tucson to establish St. Joseph's Convent. Later she established St. Mary's Hospital in Tucson, Ariz. This collection is made up of a diary of railway and stage journey from St. Louis, Mo. to Tucson, Ariz., April 21, 1870-May 26, 1870, with Sisters of Saint Joseph of Carondelet. Later it was published in part as The Trek of the Seven Sisters, Tucson, 1948.

 Abstract:  Photographs and related glass plate negatives, taken between 1887 and 1899. The bulk of the material is comprised of the photographic plates taken by Leo Goldschmidt, a pioneer of the Tucson area. The plates have all been printed. Images include family, friends, his businesses and business interests, and personal residences in Arizona and Sonora, Mexico. This collection is part of the Southwest Jewish Archives. The Bloom Southwest Jewish Archives were founded by David A. and Leona G. Bloom, longstanding members of Tucson's business, religious, and social service communities. The Archive serves to highlight Jewish contributions to Tucson and surrounding southwest areas. This collection was previously SJA 002. The materials were transferred to Special Collections in 1998.
