	Abstract:	This guide describes all of the small manuscript collections held in ASC's Chicano/a Research Collection. These collections generally consist of 1-2 folders and document Mexican American history in Arizona from the late 19th century to the early 21st century. Manuscripts, personal papers, professional papers, and family history projects are included. All of these descriptions were originally entered into ASC's Special Materials Index between 1996 and 2014.

	Abstract:	This collection houses personal diaries, correspondence, ephemera, newspaper and magazine articles, legal briefs, appointment books, and other materials documenting Gustavo Gutiérrez's work among Mexicans in the agricultural industry and involvement in farm labor organization and Native American human rights issues. Among the organizations that Gutiérrez helped to create and collaborated with are the Arizona Farm Workers, the United Farm Workers, the National Labor Relations Board, and the Maricopa County Organizing Project. This collection has not been processed in full and can be viewed only by appointment. Contact Archives and Special Collections for more information.

	Abstract:	The Clinton Jencks Papers contain materials documenting Jencks' labor organizing activities with the International Union of Mine, Mill and Smelters Workers in the southwest from 1950 to 1957. Of particular interest are the items showing the fifteen-month Empire Zinc strike in Hanover, New Mexico (led by Local 890, IUMMSW) and the Jencks Case. Also included are IUMMSW union memorandums; newsletters; and newspaper articles, magazine articles, and printed matter discussing Jencks' activities as the International Union Representative of the Amalgamated Bayard District Union of Mine, Mill and Smelter Workers Local 890 (whose membership was primarily Mexican American). The collection has been divided into six series.

	Abstract:	The Manuel Lito Peña Papers consist of personal files and photographs documenting Peña's work in Tolleson, Arizona in the 1950s with the Community Service Organization (CSO); correspondence reflecting his friendship with César Chávez, farm labor union leader and organizer; legislative speeches made and bills introduced in the Arizona Senate (1966-1996); campaign literature generated when Peña sought re-election as the Democratic representative for District 22; political statements made and additional documents produced explaining Peña's votes on a variety of issues presented for discussion among lawmakers, including the Governor Evan Mecham impeachment hearings in 1988; biographical information; newspaper clippings and printed matter about state and county elections (1980s-1996); correspondence from and to Peña's District 22 constituents (1966-1996); and original photographs portraying Senator Peña's friendships with community activists, leaders, and organizers of the Community Service Organization (CSO) at meetings in California in 1956 and 1957.
