 Abstract:  This collection contains material documenting the De la Torre family and their involvement in the Cristero Movement. The family traveled from central Mexico to Nogales, Sonora bringing the Movement to northern Mexico. Items include biographical materials; correspondence; printed materials, including pamphlets, newsletters, newsclippings, and Public Statements; and photographs and negatives. The bulk of the material is printed materials and photographs. This collection also contains over 280 books that can be found in the University of Arizona Library catalog under the title Cristero Movement Collection. The majority of the material is in Spanish.  Abstract:  This collection contains materials documenting the Riggs pioneer family history from the time Brannick Riggs married Mary Elizabeth Robbins in Texas in 1856, their first wagon train move to Colorado in 1871, and several years later relocating again to southeastern Arizona, arriving and settling in Sulphur Springs Valley in 1879. Their eighth child, John Casey Riggs (1874-1943), was the family’s historian and creator of the bulk of the papers. The collection includes Our El Dorado, a biographical book written by John C. Riggs and his daughter, Jeanette Riggs Roll. Also included in the collection are biographical manuscripts; diaries and journals; business and personal correspondence; business records and ledgers; printed materials, including pamphlets, catalogs, newspapers and clippings; homestead land and mine patents; political papers of John Casey Riggs; maps; and photographs and negatives.

Includes blueprints of maps, time books and expense accounts, and photographs of Clarkston and the Ajo Mining District. Also present are family photographs, subscription lists of Clarkston inhabitants, and account books for rental properties.

This collection includes typescripts, some with holograph corrections, of published manuscripts for The Desert Year, 1952, Voice of the Desert: A Naturalist's Interpretation, 1955, The Great Chain of Life, 1957, Grand Canyon: Today and All Its Yesterdays, 1958, The Forgotten Peninsula: A Naturalist in Baja California, 1961, Herbal, 1965, and the introduction for The Best Nature Writing of Joseph Wood Krutch, 1970. Typescripts of unpublished travel diaries, 1965-1967, concern trips to France, Greece, and Baja California. Also present are printers copies for Great Chain of Life, Forgotten Peninsula, and Grand Canyon; and notes and miscellaneous material related to Herbal.
