1959-2017 ead | | | Date(s): | 1959-2017 | | | Abstract: | Dr. Jack L. August, Jr. (1954-2017) was an expert in Arizona
water-related politics, senators, and other historical subjects. His collection includes
his personal materials, professional files, research files, writings, audiovisual
materials, and memorabilia he collected throughout his life. August taught at several
different institutions and held various positions at colleges, universities, and other
history-focused institutions. He served as an expert witness on key pieces of water
rights legislation in the state of Arizona. He researched several prominent Arizonan
politicians including Barry Goldwater, Dennis DeConcini, and Evan Mecham. He also did
several research projects surrounding Wade Church, Jim Chilton, the New Mexico Bar
Association, and John R. Norton III, amongst others. A large portion of his research
files are dedicated to water politics of Arizona including, but not limited to ANSAC,
the CAP, the Colorado River Controversy, Native American/indigenous water rights, the
Santa Cruz River, the Salt River, the Gila River, and others. | | | Repository: | University of Arizona Libraries, Special Collections | | | Subjects: | Water conservation -- Arizona | Water -- Law and legislation -- Arizona | Water rights -- Colorado River (Colo.-Mexico) | Water rights -- Arizona | Water resources development -- Law and legislation --

22 | Author: | Sherman, James E. | Requires cookie* | | Title: | James E. and Barbara H. Sherman Ghost Town Photograph Collection
circa 1865-1975
(bulk 1964-1975) ead | | | Date(s): | circa 1865-1975 | | | Abstract: | Photographs, related 35 mm negatives, and research notes produced by James E. Sherman and Barbara H. Sherman for use in their books Ghost Towns of Arizona and Ghost Towns and Mining Camps of New Mexico. Early photographs, comprising about thirty percent of the collection, were reproduced from various Arizona and New Mexico archives. These span from 1865 to 1953 but most were taken between 1880 and 1920. The majority of the photographs, however, were taken by the Shermans between 1964 and 1969 during their research for their books. The images, from the 1960s, are well identified and mainly show abandoned buildings, mine equipment, cemeteries, and landscapes. Earlier photographs may also show buildings and equipment but also present for some towns are images of activities, residents and founders, and newspaper advertisements. A review of the books will give researchers a good idea of the collection. | | | Repository: | University of Arizona Libraries, Special Collections | | | Subjects: | Extinct cities—Arizona—Photographs. | Extinct cities—New Mexico—Photographs. | Arizona—History—Photographs. | New Mexico--History—Photographs. | Mine buildings—Arizona—Photographs. | Mine buildings—New Mexico—Photographs. | Cemeteries—Southwest, New—Photographs. | Japanese—New Mexico—Photographs. | Sunnyside (Ariz.)--Photographs. | Mogollon (N.M.)--Photographs. | | | Matches: 3 hit(s)
