The postcards in the collection date from 1891 through the 1990s, but most of the items are from Arizona’s Territorial period through to the early 1920s. The collection includes real photo cards, greeting cards, and panoramic cards. The postcards in this collection are a visual demonstration of how Arizona has changed since the territorial period and many of the cards show buildings, people and ways of life which no longer exist. Messages on the reverse of these postcards comment on the experiences of inhabitants and visitors. Included also are photographs that consist of images created by various Franciscan friars of the Saint Barbara Providence of the Order of Franciscan Friars depicting scenes from various Indian reservations in Arizona and Southern California.
