 Abstract:  Papers relating to the Alianza Hispano-Americana, which offered low-cost life insurance, social activities, and other services to primarily Mexican/Mexican-Americans living in the United States and Mexico. Founded in Tucson in 1894, Alianza was one of the first organizations to offer life insurance and burial policies to Mexican-American citizens. This collections includes photographs, financial files, correspondence between lodge secretaries, convention files, published materials, scrapbooks, and ledges pertaining to the daily operations of Alizana. Many of the ledgers include membership enrollment information, including members, their addresses, and lodge information.

 Abstract:  The collection consists of examples of reverse painting on glass objects, usually with tin borders, decorative trim or frames. The painted glass collection includes crosses; pieces intended for wall hanging; boxes and examples of unfinished pieces; and pieces from cultural traditions outside the Magdalena de Kino, Mexico, area. The pieces in this collection represent the work of itinerant artisans known as pajareros, or "birdcatchers," from Magdalena de Kino, Mexico. This collection was previously titled SWF 003.

Barker. The collection documents Barker's anthropological research into folk drama and ritual, the social functions of language, the Pachuco language of Hispanic youths, and Yaqui Indian culture and customs. A 1964 gift to the Southwest Folklore Archives from George C. Barker, Sr. Deaccessioned from the collection in 1993 were approximately 0.2 feet of duplicates and items of a personal nature. In 1996 two 11 x 14 black-and-white photographs by Alfred A. Cohn were transferred to the L. Marguerite Collier Collection, Southwest Folklore Center Manuscripts Collection MS 611. This collection was previously titled SWF 004.
