of the Arizona Jewish Post, sports editor at the Arizona Daily Star, and professor at
the University of Arizona School of Journalism from 1976-1988. From 1988 to 1994, Chanin
was director of the Bloom Southwest Jewish Archive at the University of Arizona. This
collection contains interviews created by Abraham Chanin dating 1974-1977 with prominent
Arizona settlers, politicians, University of Arizona faculty, and members of Native

Albert E. Ward's archeological work in New Mexico. A majority of the collection
references "Site 48," a ruin that Ward excavated in New Mexico. Site 48's authenticity
was later called into question, leading to several legal battles in which Ward
participated, claiming that the site was authentic and his evidence was proof of a
Spanish-Indian residential fort. Materials include correspondence, maps, reports, notes,

introduction of disease-resistant wild beans, and the development of jojoba oil. This
collection is comprised of professional correspondence, proposals, and manuscripts
related to his research of plant species. Also included are some photographs and related
material to individual plants in the forms of published articles, pamphlets, booklets,
