 Abstract:  John Gregory Bourke, 1846-1896, was a U.S. Army soldier, author, and ethnologist. The collection contains a holograph journal, with sketches; kept by Bourke while a lieutenant in the U.S. Army, 3rd cavalry. Bourke describes visits to the Bannock Indians, Zuni villages, Navajo, Sioux, and various western military forts from May to June 1881. Includes descriptive index prepared by James Officer.

Formats include postcards, stereographs, cartes-de-visite, cabinet cards, cyanotypes, view books, photograph albums, panoramas, photoprints, and others.
